About Me

'I always want my pupils to enjoy learning and feel more motivated and encouraged to succeed.'
Where do you teach?
I teach in my home in Ealing.
I have a cheerfully decorated room all set up for teaching with a laptop, printer, stationery and loads of teaching resources.
There are no parking restrictions and you can get to me on the tube - Northfields ( Piccadilly Line), Boston Manor ( Piccadilly Line) or Ealing Broadway ( District and Central lines) and bus - E2, E3, E8
Which age group do you teach?
I teach all of KS2 - school years 3 – 6.
However, having taught KS1 and worked in a high school, I am flexible and will certainly consider older or younger pupils.
What kind of tuition do you specialise in?
I have lots of experience in preparing pupils for entrance examinations at 11+. I also enjoy teaching children who need extra help with Maths and English. This could be because they need to boost their confidence, improve their performance at school , catch up with missed work or an area they find particularly difficult or to prepare them for their new school. I always want my pupils to enjoy learning and feel more motivated and encouraged to succeed.
Having worked as a SENCO in several schools, I am also happy to teach children with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia.
What is your background?
I have been a qualified teacher for over 30 years and I still work in a prep school as a SENCO. I have been a KS2 class teacher for ten years at Notting Hill & Ealing High School and subsequently at Aston House Prep School and Parson’s Green Prep School as well as doing lots of supply teaching in both state and independent schools.
I have worked as a SENCO and Learning Support teacher at Heathfield School , Bassett House and Parsons Green Prep.
I started offering private tuition in 2000 and have been doing it ever since - although at times when my school commitments were full – on, I have reduced the number of pupils.
Are you qualified to teach special needs children?
Yes I trained with the British Dyslexia Association and have a level 3 certificate. I also spent two years training as a Master Practitioner in NLP ( Neuro Linguistic Programming) which I have found very helpful in Education. I delivered courses in NLP for several years at City Lit , Mary Ward Centre and the London borough of Ealing Education Centre.
How much do you charge?
I charge £50 for an hour’s lesson. I work on a termly basis and find it and ask parents pay for half a term in advance.
What about cancellations?
In line with other professionals, I cannot refund fees if there has not been adequate notice. Being a parent myself, I understand that some cancellations are unavoidable so I always try to make up the lesson at another time. I think reliability and good time- keeping are important examples to children and I cannot teach beyond the appointed time for the end of the lesson, since that would impact on the next pupil.
When do you teach?
I teach after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well as Saturdays during the day .
I am happy to teach during school holidays and half – terms.Lessons are usually first thing in the morning or late afternoon as this gives the child more time to enjoy activities during the day, but I am very flexible and usually discuss times with parents just before the holidays begin.
How much information will I get about my child’s progress?
I always give a brief oral account of what we have covered during the lesson, when parents collect their children. I don’t like saying anything negative in front of a child and if a more detailed discussion is needed I suggest that we communicate by phone or e – mail. I welcome suggestions and feedback from parents. It is a team effort and the more support parents can give their child, whilst respecting my professional judgement when it comes to teaching methods and resources, the more progress their child will make.
